Remodeling Your Bathroom: Your Bathroom Cabinet Options


Whether you are remodeling your bathroom or building a new house, cabinets for the bathroom present you with a variety of choices. Not only are you concerned with the appearances of the bathroom, but you need to keep in mind the functional aspect of the bathroom.

There are is a wide range of needs than can be covered. From a spacious master bath, to a half bath off a garage entrance, there are different many different needs. A bathroom remodeling project has many different things to work out. The size and number of the plumbing fixtures usually dictate the function of the bathroom, with the bathroom cabinets and storage serving a supporting role.

Bathroom Vanities


Vanity cabinets are bathroom favorites for many bathroom designs, and is the most common place to put bathroom storage. It's out of the way, and almost a required element for a master bath. There is a wide range of designs to look at, many featuring the basin sunk into the top, or commonly in a master bath two basins. This will change with the layout of the bathroom along with the size and shape of the vanity, these cabinets can be small, taking up only as much space as your sink, or large, giving drawer and counter space. These bathroom cabinets are better suited for large bathrooms, however. If you have a smaller bathroom like a half bath, you may choose a free-standing sink to create the illusion of more space than you get with a large vanity.

Medicine Cabinets


Medicine cabinets are primarily a feature of a dedicated bathroom such as a master bath or the children's bathrooms. These cabinets can be a great place to keep all your personal hygiene items available but out of site. For the cleanest look, you can have recessed cabinets installed, which will save space by hiding most of these bathroom cabinets in the wall.

Wall Cabinets


Another common option to consider are wall bathroom cabinets. Often these are mounted over the toilet. This is a great space for towels and other bully items that won't store neatly under the sink or vanity, making up for the lack of a nearby linen closet. That space in the bathroom can easily house a set of cabinets that can store bottles of bubble bath, soap, and towels. While you can’t fit the bulk of of these bathroom cabinets in the wall, the backs can be recessed into the wall somewhat so the cabinets don’t stick out too far.

No Bathroom Cabinets for You?


In a small bath, especially off the back door or pool entrance, a common choice is to use no cabinets at all. With a small open vanity, and a simple rack to hold just a few towels, you may find the more open approach something that is more attractive and functional for the small half bath.
