Bookcase Plans

Building a bookcase is a great project to try no matter what your skill level in woodcrafting and building. Bookcases are very versatile, ranging in size from little desktop units to large heirloom pieces of furniture. You can build a bookcase with just a few simple hand tools, or you may have graduated to a Shopsmith as the cornerstone of your woodworking shop. In additon, you can finish one with a simple varnish, or use an elegant stain to match the room decor.

Some manufacturers like Shopsmith offer free plans on their website as a service to their customers. There are also websites that offer woodworking plans of all sorts, including bookcase plans.

Finally there are a large number of books available. One great resource comes from the Otho series of home improvement books. How to Plan & Build Bookcases, Cabinets & Shelves was first published several years ago, but the basic ideas needed to build a bookcase haven't really changed. It has several good reviews.

If you are in a hurry to get something, Built-In Bookcases: Woodworking Plan is a single plan offered as a digital download from Amazon, so you can get started right away. Other digital downloads include: Tambour Bookcase: Woodworking Plan, Towering Tomes Bookcase: Woodworking Plan, Arts-and-Crafts Collection Bookcase: Woodworking Plan, Federal Bookcase: Woodworking Plan, and this Trio of bookcases: Woodworking Plan.

Those are a few sources for bookcase plans. Good luck.
