Painting Kitchen Cabinets
Here we have a video that gives a great overview of a do it yourself approach to painting kitchen cabinets.
The steps outlined in this video can be summarized quickly as:
- Gather your tools and supplies. As usual when painting, don't buy cheap brushes, a few dollars here make a big impact on the look of your painted kitchen cabinets.
- It's best to disassemble the cabinents before you start to paint them
- The surfaces to be painted must be cleaned well before starting. Soap and water can do a good job of preparing the cabinet surface. Then the surface needs to be further repaired by deglossing, either with a sander or chemically.
- Paint the cabinet door with a primer first.
- When painting a door with raised panels, paint the raised panel first, working out towards the edge surface of the cabinet door.
- Apply the paint quickly after the primer is dry. Use several thin coats of paint instead of one thick one for a cleaner finish.
